Malta will issue a call for boats to be used to quarantine migrants at sea, the Home Affairs Ministry announced on Thursday, after a substantial number of those who landed in the past few days tested positive for the coronavirus.The ministry said it was looking for vessels to be able to house migrants at sea rather than taking them on land after they are rescued.Work had also continued on relocating migrants and deporting those who are not eligible for protection, the ministry said.It said that up till Thursday, all the necessary precautious measures were taken when migrants positive for COVID-19 were found. These cases have been isolated.A total of 66 from a boatload of 94 that arrived on Tuesday evening, and 19 of a boatload of 33 that arrived on Wednesday morning, who were rescued in the past few days, were found positive for the COVID-19."The Maltese government feels that there should be the choice to use these vessels so that the situation can be controlled and managed better," the government said.
